When applying for an allotment a few months ago, I was told that the expected waiting list was three years. I had therefore resigned myself to digging up a small area of lawn (6m squared or so) at home to convert it to a veg patch. Because I live in a rented house, it would require re-turfing whenever I leave.
So imagine, if you will, my excitement last Friday morning, as I recieved a letter from the Council informing me there has been a shuffle-round down at the ol' Larkhall patches, and that I now have 125m squared of land 15mins walk from home!
Out comes the pipe, wind-up radio, wellies and tweed hat.... Please feel free to join me for a cuppa at Plot 12B, Larkhall, should you wish to see an onion or two.

Lucky Bugger! I was waiting all year when I lived in Bath and nothing! Now I have to wait another year in Exeter! Ah well, good luck to you, maybe fortune will shine upon me and I too will be blessed with an allotment one day...
I wish you the best of luck my friend!
The one I have is completely overgrown; so I think the last person had neglected it (how terrible), and been 'caught' by the Council.
I asked a lady from the Council why I had managed to get an allotment after being told there was a three year waiting list, and she explained that they have recently been working hard to tighten up on disused patches, so that they can be given out to people who really want them.
Perhaps you could ask Exeter to do the same? Or alternatively go to the allotments in person and see if any look disused? It certainly seems that in Bath, until recently, a lot were in fact unused, although the central Council didn't know as much.
It was great to see you in Devon for Halloween, looking forward to seeing you again sometime soon, avec Ball photos!

This looks amazing! I hope that the area comes with a little shed or something in which to store your pipe and wellies?
You've inspired me to apply for an allotment when I move to Walthamstow so I can sit on an old deck chair in a cardi.
Wilheim!
It does indeed come with a little shed, left by a previous tenant. A mixed blessing really - great to have a shed, but it's in dire need of some attention!
Deck chair/cardi - I can picture you now.....
I was up there yesterday barrowing compost around and thinking about where to stick some strawberries - love it.
