Greener electricity tariffs 2

A weekly 'Greenwash' column has begun in The Guardian newspaper, to be authored by the environment writer, Fred Pearce. His first article discusses green electricity tariffs, and can be found here. Earlier this year I discussed such tariffs in a Bath Magazine article that you can find here.

Greener electricity tariffs 1

The UK has one of the best renewable energy resources in Europe - particularly for wind and marine power. But only 4.5% of our electricity coming from renewables - a smaller percentage than almost all other EU members. By buying your electricity from a 'green' tariff, it's possible to support an increase in that proportion. But while there are some good tariffs available, there are some that are dubious at best. Gandhi's legacy

I've just received this by email from Resurgence Magazine, and thought I'd share it on. You can see and hear more from Satish Kumar, the presenter of the short film below, here.

"Sixty years ago today, January 30th, Gandhi was assassinated. Yet Gandhi’s teachings of social, political and ecologic non-violence, small scale local economy and production by the masses rather than mass production, are just as relevant now as they were six decades ago.

We have produced a short 7 minute film where Resurgence editor and ecologist, Satish Kumar, shows how Gandhi’s simple but profound teachings echo the core principles of ecology and sustainability."

Bath and Bristol Magazines

A friend and I have begun a column for a local magazine, published (in slightly different forms) in Bath and Bristol once a month. With a 'green' focus, we will be covering a mixture of general topics (for example 'Food for Free' and 'Heating the Home'), and more specific local themes and events.

If you'd like to have a look, you can find the magazines online at www.thebathmagazine.co.uk and www.thebristolmagazine.co.uk
